Stephen Bell OBE is Group Chief Executive of Changing Lives. A specialist in finance and business, he has wide-ranging experience in both the not-for-profit and private sectors.
Stephen has worked for Changing Lives for more than 15 years in a number of roles, first as Finance Manager, then Operations Manager, and since 2001, as Chief Executive.
As Chief Executive, Stephen has overseen and implemented significant change at Changing Lives.
Since 2003 annual turnover has increased massively and the number of employees has increased by 300%. Changing Lives now supports in excess of 16,000 people every year.
Stephen takes great pride in the fact that in 2008 Changing Lives was named the Charity Times’ National Charity of the Year and in June 2009 the charity received The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
Changing Lives is now acknowledged as a national leader specialising in homelessness, addiction and a range of other problems by reaching out in to our communities. We offer specialist support services for women and families and provide employment opportunities for our clients. Over 20% of Changing Lives employees have used services similar to the charity’s themselves.
Until 2012 Stephen was a trustee of national body, Homeless Link and has also sat on a Government Select Committee investigating homelessness and related issues. Stephen was recently awarded the prestigious Sieff Award in recognition of his work encouraging local businesses to work with the region’s communities.
A keen golfer and enthusiastic football fan, Stephen lives in Stanley, County Durham and has two children.
