From pier to peer: how a staff member with lived experience hopes to unite the recovery community in South Tyneside

A staff member in recovery from substance misuse has organised a 7-mile recovery walk from South Shields to Sunderland to raise awareness of the recovery community during National Recovery Month. Tony Jefferson, who has previously used the addiction services provided by Changing Lives, and is now employed by us to help others like him, hopes the walk will create a sense of unity in South Tyneside surrounding the subject of recovery.

He said, ‘I have been here nearly 18 months, and I haven’t seen much promotion of recovery in South Tyneside or in Sunderland, which is where I successfully came through my own recovery’.

Mangobean 12-Hour Cycle-athon - 5th August 2016

On 5th August 2016, our team from Sunderland took part in a 12-hour cycle-athon to continue to change lives in the city. Mangobean Team Valley were on hand to provide support and coffees, continuing their strong relationship with the charity.

Changing Lives and Arc Light Merge

Charities Arc Light and Changing Lives have merged their York operations.

The move follows the announcement that Arc Light’s Chief Executive Jeremy Jones is to retire after 17 years in charge of the York-based homeless charity.

The merger will have no impact operationally on the charity work carried out in York where Changing Lives runs Oaktrees, the substance misuse recovery service.
