Tastes good, does good
Every forkful of this delicious three-course lunch puts food on the table of local community groups, by raising money for Fareshare North East, the regional branch of the national food redistribution charity, Fareshare.
Food banks have become a sign of the times in this age of austerity, highlighting the impact of cuts on our community, as increasing numbers struggle to feed themselves and their families.
Fareshare North East collects high-quality in-date surplus food from supermarkets and suppliers in the region, and redistributes it to community groups, helping them provide hearty meals to breakfast clubs, older peoples lunch groups and more.
The charity banquet highlights the work of the social enterprise by creating a feast from the very food that they redistribute to 10,000 people per week.
Second helpings, second chances
Making lunch doubly delicious is that fact that the people preparing the meal are special trainees from Changing Lives, supported by the professional chefs in the prestigious Blackfriars kitchens.
Changing Lives is a national charity based in the North East, which supports people courageously facing challenges such as homelessness, domestic violence, sexual exploitation and life-threatening addictions.
Changing Lives gives people opportunities to change their lives for the better and escape the circumstances that have held them back from their full potential.
Opportunities like this one – working alongside professional chefs to cater for high-profile guests and VIPs – provides a vital boost of confidence to people working to build a better future.
Supporting your local community
Join us for our banquet and you’ll be supporting community groups like Choysez, Northumberland, who are catering for increased food poverty in their local area.
‘The majority of our young people are from tough backgrounds. Our families were having to make difficult decisions between feeding their families and paying their bills. Food poverty was not something we used to have to consider a few years ago. But now we are providing up to three meals a day for our young people. They already suffer disadvantages like being in care or witnessing abuse. Giving them with the fuel they need to learn, grow and achieve is the least they deserve.’
Choysez are just one of 120 customers of Fareshare North East, catering for their community’s needs one meal at a time.
