Changing Lives' GAP/MAP Team joined North Tyneside Safeguarding Adults and Northumbria Police to present a session topic on Sexual Exploitation and Sex Work at the North of Tyne Multi-Agency Safeguarding Event on Wednesday 16th November.

This was the largest event of its kind North of Tyne, organised jointly by the Adult Safeguarding Boards from Northumberland, North Tyneside, Newcastle and Northumbria Healthcare Trust.

PC Beth Burn (Northumbria Police), Paula Shandran (Senior Social Worker, NTC) and Ian Fiddes (Senior Practitioner, GAP/MAP) presented throughout the day as part of the carousel arrangements.

Paula and Ian also used the day to launch the new ‘Mapping Exercise’ designed to highlight all the areas of sexual exploitation in a user friendly format. Considerable interest was shown in the mapping exercise, with the first maps covering Northumberland and North Tyneside available for the delegates. Other areas are in preparation (Newcastle/Gateshead/South of Tyne) and will be available soon.

The event was held at The Marriot Gosforth Park Hotel, with over 320 delegates taking part in a day of learning and networking. Other session topics included Modern Slavery, Self-neglect, FGM and Hate Crime.
