BBO grantholder lock up FINAL

On Wednesday 12th April, women supported by the charity Changing Lives will be opening the doors to their own exhibition at Nottingham Contemporary.  This exhibition will celebrate the progress the women have made as they complete Loudspeaker – an innovative project helping women to grow in confidence, self-esteem and creativity.

Loudspeaker is part of a national programme called Building Better Opportunities, funded by the Big Lottery and the European Social Fund.

Since February 2017, six women from Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire joined Nottingham Contemporary’s Associate Artist, Gillian Brent, to explore the ideas and themes in our contemporary art exhibitions and have developed their own and collaborative artworks and interpretations.

Nottingham Contemporary is pleased to be sharing stories and artworks from participants of Loudspeaker project.  There will be an exhibition of 2D and 3D artworks by all of the participants, reflecting on the themes and displaying the development of ideas that will include a range of media  across drawing, photography, print, collage, text and sculpture.

On taking part, one participant said:

“I feel really good after today – I love the way that we’re a group and we work together.  I feel totally different now to how I felt when I came.”

Katy Culbard, Loudspeaker Project Manager said:

“We offer a totally unique experience for the women taking part; through our art-led sessions, women develop self-confidence, make new friends, express ideas and opinions and explore contemporary art.  We are very proud to share the outcomes with friends and partners next week.”

Leading on from Loudspeaker, participants have accessed other opportunities through Changing Lives, and through creative activities have taken steps towards making positive lifestyle choices.

Fiona Binks, Support Worker at Changing Lives said:

“It’s an amazing project that guides the women to various pathways of support.  It really helps women to take the first steps towards independence, empowerment and changing their lives.  Loudspeaker is a unique experience for women to express themselves creatively and the progress we see in women is phenomenal.”

Join us to celebrate their achievements with a buffet.
