Why run for Changing Lives?

Read one of our 2023 Runners stories:

“Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to run the Great North Run for Changing Lives- I ran 13 miles in 2 hours and 22 minutes! Rewind 8 months and I had been admitted into Oaktree’s (Recovery Programme) for a drug and alcohol problem. I was spiritually and physically and mentally broken. I was lucky to be alive. I am lucky to be alive.

I wish you knew how scared I was, but if I can go through recovery and rehabilitation, I can do anything. I am one of the lucky ones who managed to access the tools of sobriety first time round. I have recently found joy in this life and no longer long for death.”
