Warm wishes from Changing Lives at Christmas. Thank you to all of our supporters, volunteers, donors, fundraisers, staff, corporate and professional partners, and everyone else who helps us change lives every day.

As 2017 draws towards a close, I would like to personally thank everyone who has made this such a successful year for Changing Lives and the people we support.

People are at the heart of everything we do at Changing Lives.

From the people who use our services to change their lives, to the individuals and organisations who support us through donations and fundraising, and the volunteers who give their time, expertise and energy so generously.

Not forgetting, of course, our 500+ staff who dedicate their working hours to supporting others, whichever area of our organisation they work in.

21,000 people have accessed our services this year. We’ve been astounded and delighted by the stories we hear from our projects around the UK in the past 12 months.

Often humbling, always inspiring, these are stories of recovery, resilience and personal strength. They are a testament both to the individuals themselves and to the staff who support them.

From the first person helped by our brand new Personal Transition Service, to our 100th graduate of our 12-step drug recovery programme in York, and the 500th person into work via our employment team, our services reach out to increasing numbers of individuals.

We have close to 70 projects nationwide now and our organisation continues to grow, as does the need we serve.

For example: we have new drug and alcohol services in York; in the Midlands, our work with people involved in sex work, survival sex and sexual exploitation continues to grow; and we are embarking on exciting partnerships to target homelessness in the North East.

None of our work can happen in isolation and we’re delighted that 65% of our work is now delivered in partnership with fellow professionals, charities and CICs. Across the UK, we are a trusted partner for local authorities, delivering quality services that help them meet their statutory obligations and strengthening the safety net available in communities.

266 volunteers have donated 35,549 hours to Changing Lives this year and we continue to be astounded by their good will and great work. They really are life-changers and we couldn’t do it without them.

Similarly, our fundraisers and donors are vital to our on-going success. Supporters have raised almost £140,000 in 2017.

Through activities as diverse as CEO sleepouts and half marathons, banquets and balls, they’ve funded life-changing support for people in need. These include a six-seater buggy for the toddlers in our Doncaster crèche, a memorial garden in York, and a special trip on the Santa Claus Express for mothers and children in the North East. Our reverse advent calendar campaign has been the closing success of the year.

If you’d like to support us in 2018, perhaps you’d consider the following:

  • Show your solidarity with people experiencing homelessness by joining one of our CEO sleepout events in Newcastle, Durham or York
  • Take on a challenge such as the Great North Run – we have 19 places left
  • Join our annual golf day or Fareshare banquet, to fundraise whilst having fun
  • Set up a regular donation to us, or make a one-off payment by texting CLIV45 £10 to 70070

Thank you

It has been an extremely busy year and our staff and volunteers have consistently risen to every challenge presented to them.

On behalf of the Board and all the Directors of Changing Lives, I want to thank everyone who has been a part of it.

Here’s to another fantastic year in 2018.
