An enthusiastic bunch of volunteers from Newcastle Building Society spent the afternoon at our drop-in centre for people experiencing homelessness recently, providing some much needed TLC to our support hub.
Changing Lives has recently been supported by Newcastle Strategic Solutions Ltd, part of the Newcastle Building Society Group. A team of volunteers spent an afternoon away from the office, and arrived at our City Road Drop-In Centre in Newcastle with paintbrushes at the ready.
Kevin Waggott, Team Leader of Changing Lives’ Multiple Exclusion Team said:
“The team from Newcastle Strategic Solutions were all great and really enthusiastic about helping out. They wanted to learn about what we do in the team, and some have even offered to bring some donations of clothes which will be a big help to the people we support!”
Changing Lives’ drop-in centre in Newcastle is open every morning for people experiencing homelessness to pop by and get some warm food, have a shower, use our laundry facilities, and speak to one of our team to get one-to-one support about their housing needs and other factors that have contributed to them becoming homeless.
As well as making our drop-in centre feel more welcoming with a trusty lick of paint, the team from Newcastle Strategic Solutions have also offered to organise a donation drive at their office to collect much-needed clothing, towels and toiletries for the people who access the City Road Drop-In Centre.
Changing Lives has been supporting people experiencing homelessness in Newcastle for over 47 years. Our outreach service and drop-in centre helps people sleeping on the streets to access safe and supported accommodation.
In 2017, our drop-in centre relocated from the West End of Newcastle to City Road, close to the Newcastle Quayside. The new drop-in centre shares a building with Crisis Skylight Newcastle, and in partnership we’re able to offer a one-stop-shop of support for people experiencing homelessness in the area.
