Helen, Mark, Danielle, Dawn and Lee oversee and work in Changing Lives projects across Northumberland and North Tyneside. These services include a large provision for men and women who need help with accommodation, a specific service for Veterans experiencing homelessness and a service for people forced into slavery and exploitation.

They will be taking part in the Northumberland CEO Sleepout at Alnwick Gardens, braving the elements and sleeping outside to raise awareness and funds to fight homelessness and poverty in Northumberland. Helen explains;

“We are hoping to raise funds to support our services and to help make Christmas easier for our individuals through activities and nice food. We are also doing this to get a personal understanding of the challenge many people face each night, having to sleep rough.

Luckily, we will be in a safe venue – but as we know, many people are physically and sexually assaulted as they sleep rough and have their precious little belongings, stolen. The nightly struggle for some rough sleepers is beyond comprehension for those of us who have been lucky enough to have never been in that situation, but I am hopeful the event will help give participants a deeper empathy and motivation to keep battling social injustice and to help charities such as Changing Lives.”

The money raised will go towards homelessness services in Northumberland – including our specialist supported accommodation project for veterans and our Northumberland Temporary Accommodation Service which accommodates men and women experiencing homelessness – many fleeing violence and abuse.
