Executives from across Yorkshire are invited to take part in the CEO Sleepout at York Racecourse n April 2018 to raise funds to tackle homelessness in the region and change lives for the better.
What is the CEO Sleepout?
On 16th April, big-hearted businesspeople from York and the surrounding area will swap briefcases for sleeping bags and spend a night sleeping under the stars to raise funds for essential homelessness services in the city.
The CEO Sleepout is a unique opportunity for businesspeople to sleep out at York Racecourse to raise awareness of rough sleeping and homelessness in their community. 50 brave business owners and leaders have already signed up to take part.
Where will the money go?
Changing Lives is a national charity that runs services for people experiencing homelessness, addictions and multiple disadvantage in York. They operate several accommodation projects including the hostel formerly managed by ArcLight on Union Terrace.
The money raised from the CEO Sleepout will be used to create a fund for people who are changing their lives with the charity, moving from rough sleeping to supported housing and hopefully their own home.
Changing Lives projects provides life-saving support for people who find themselves homeless or sleeping rough in the city, giving them a roof over their heads and support to address the causes of their homelessness. When people are ready to move on, the charity can provide secure housing through move-on properties, addiction support and employability programmes.
Stephen Bell, Chief Executive at Changing Lives says:
‘The Newcastle CEO Sleepout recently raised £110,000 and contributed to Changing Lives services in the North East. We’re hoping that the local business community will prove equally engaged at the inaugural York event and showcase the generosity of the people of York. There is so much wonderful work that we can do to help people overcoming homelessness in York but only with the support of our generous donors and supporters.’
Kelly Cunningham, who manages one of Changing Lives accommodation projects in York, says:
‘We have very exciting plans to put the funds raised by the CEO Sleepout and other donations to good use. Our female hostel is desperate for a community space, and we also need to upgrade our IT suite to provide residents with access to the internet for job searches and skill development. It will also help fund our resettlement service to help people return to their home town and family connections.’
