Donate to Changing Lives

Donating new or unwanted gifts or items is a simple and rewarding way to make a big difference to your local community. We have a selection of projects around the country accepting donations. Please see the collection points below to make sure there is a project near you.

Coronavirus Update

Our charity shop, based in Gateshead, reopens on Tuesday 13th April.

Whilst social distancing measures remain in place, we will be limiting customer numbers allowed inside the shop at any one time. When waiting outside, please follow the floor markings to ensure a two metre distance between yourself and other customers. Our shop has been rearranged to ensure social distancing once inside and you will also find hand sanitizer at the till point for use before and after paying for your shopping.

When the shop reopens, we will be able to accept donated items under the following conditions:

  • Your donation is left in the allocated space inside the shop
  • The items are donated in bin bag/alternative which is tied at the top or in a sealed box
  • Any clothing or textiles need to be washed before donating
  • All solid items should be wiped down/cleaned before being donated
  • Any large donation drops are arranged in advance by telephoning the shop on 0191 477 7767

The shop will be open Monday to Saturday between 9.30am-4.00pm, enabling us to do a thorough clean at the beginning and end of each day.

Please be mindful and help us all to stay safe by adhering to the above guidance. By doing so, you are helping to protect yourself, our staff and volunteers and our other supporters and customers.

Our central office donation drop-off point will remain closed until further notice, as our non-operational staff continue to work from home during this time. For queries relating to this please email fundraising@changing-lives.org.uk.

Standard List

Warm clothes

We reach out to people experiencing homelessness and sleeping rough on the streets. Warm gloves, socks and hats are especially helpful in the winter months. We’ll distribute them via our outreach projects and drop-in centres.

We support 17,000 people each year, including a large number of residents in our accommodation projects. We always need deodorant, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, sanitary products, moisturiser etc.

Gift sets

Gift sets are great! They provide people with the chance to give their loved ones Christmas presents and birthday gifts that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford. They also make a lovely treat for residents who may not receive any other gifts for Christmas or birthdays themselves due to estrangement or isolation from family and friends.

Pyjamas can be a luxury when you’re living in poverty and nights can be cold if you can’t heat your home.

Toys and gifts for children

Can you donate new toys, books and craft items for the children of families we support? We need items from baby right through to late teenage. (Please note that our greatest need is for items for adults, however.)

People who use our services often have a lot of appointments to keep track of and many don’t have a mobile phone to record them in. Diaries are always really useful and popular to help people who use our services to remember when and where they can get help.

Items we’re unable to accept

  • Please do not donate alcohol, razors or blades.
  • Please don’t wrap your gifts as we’ll need to unwrap them to check suitability.

Make a donation

Donate today and help our dedicated staff and volunteers around the country continue to support over 14,000 people and their families every year.
