Local housebuilder, Barratt Developments North East, is continuing to support charities and organisations in the areas in which it builds with a £1,000 donation to Changing Lives, a national charity with its Head Office in Gateshead, that offers specialist support to people facing the toughest of challenges in the North East.

The donation, as part of the housebuilder’s monthly Community Fund initiative, aims to further support the specialist services that Changing Lives provides to people across the North East, after a difficult year for charities due to COVID-19 affecting usual fundraising activities. The charity offers support to those who are experiencing homelessness, unemployment, or suffering from domestic abuse or mental health issues, and aims to help people make meaningful and lasting improvements to their lives.

For Christmas last year, Barratt Developments North East set up donation drop-off stations for essential items at every Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes development within the North East region, including its City Edge development close to the Changing Lives Head Office. In addition to this, the housebuilder asked its business partners and suppliers to make a donation to the charity, which saw a total of over £9,000 raised and gifts donated such as warm clothes, food and toys.

Val Bell, Head of Employment and Enterprise at Changing Lives, said: “We are extremely grateful to Barratt Developments North East for the generous donation after an uncertain year. Our usual fundraising activities and events have been affected and on top of what Barratt Developments raised last Christmas, we’re so grateful for the continuous support offered.”

Becky Mortimer, Sales Manager at nearby City Edge development, commented: “We were delighted to support Changing Lives again this year – they continuously help people across the region and we were delighted to be able to support them after a difficult year for various charities across the region. As a housebuilder, we are always wanting to support and give back to the communities in which we build, and Changing Lives is just one of the many organisations that offer vital and outstanding support to those in our community and deserve recognition.”
