About you

Do you hold English and Maths GCSE level or equivalent?

Do you have experience of working to safeguarding policies and procedures? Do you have experience of working with vulnerable people in a supportive and empowering role? Do you have experience of multi-agency working? Do you have experience of working in an environment that requires confidentiality?

Do you have knowledge and understanding of trauma and the complex needs of women? Do you have knowledge of the range of issues faced by socially excluded women? Do you have the ability to use own initiative, manage time effectively and to within set deadlines?

Do you have the ability to be personable and engaging? Do you have commitment to detail, ensuring all work is accurate, concise and understandable? Do you have commitment to the values of Changing Lives?

We began as a soup run supporting people who were homeless in the North East over 45 years ago, and are proud to still have our main base and central office in the North East. Since 1970, our services have grown and developed to support people experiencing a wide range of personal challenges, including addiction and recovery programmes, employment guidance, help for people in prison or on probation, and support for people experiencing sexual exploitation or domestic abuse.

About the job

We are looking for a dynamic individual who possesses excellent motivational interviewing and engagement skills for this bespoke service across the Northumbria area. The successful candidates will be responsible for identifying individual needs attributed to offending, and brokering access into local services to address needs.  They will develop referral routes to community interventions so knowledge of the geographical area and existing community provision is essential. The ability to foster a quick rapport with stakeholders, including service users, commissioners and referrers are vital.

The Diversion Worker will be responsible for undertaking offending needs assessments with women referred to the service, whilst also delivering a motivational intervention alongside, within specific timescales and providing onward referral. All support will be delivered using approaches which are trauma-informed, non-judgemental, strengths based and understanding the distinct needs of women.

Feedback to Northumbria Police on compliance and non-engagement is an essential part of this role, along with the collation of outcomes. Therefore an eye for detail, excellent IT and time management skills are required.
