Reception Volunteer

Location: Newcastle

Role Description

Virginia House offers single homeless accommodation, with support, for males aged 18+ with a local connection to Newcastle. We have 17 en-suite rooms in our building, which is a beautifully refurbished house in extensive grounds. We need a volunteer to provide reception service within a fast-paced environment and support our crisis accommodation project.

Key responsibilities

  • Greeting visitors, making sure they sign in/out
  • Welcoming people we support into the offices
  • Informally chatting with people we support and put them at ease on entering the service
  • Answering the telephone and taking messages
  • Devising and maintaining accurate and up-to-date records
  • Keeping the reception orderly
  • Attending relevant training

Skills, experience and abilities

  • Experience in any aspect of office or admin is beneficial but not essential
  • Able to work as part of a team with good communication and listening skills
  • Friendly and approachable manner, and a good sense of humour
  • Open-minded, with a non-judgemental approach to addiction and recovery
  • Able to keep calm under pressure
  • To be friendly and approachable
  • A commitment to the aims and principles of Changing Lives, including a commitment to confidentiality

Expected hours/times

Volunteers must be aged 18+ . Monday to Friday 10.00- 3.00
