In Newcastle, we provide ongoing support for people experiencing domestic abuse. We supported Tammy, who wrote us a letter about the support she received 💜
My name is Tammy, and I want to share a heartfelt message of gratitude on behalf of myself and my daughter, When we moved to the refuge, we were fleeing abuse, with no support system and nowhere else to go. We arrived with very little, unsure of what to expect and unfamiliar with the society and resources around us.
From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth, kindness, and a genuine sense of care. The staff members at the refuge made us feel supported during one of the most challenging times in our lives. Because of this incredible support, we have been able to grow, learn, and move forward in ways we never thought possible.
My daughter was just a baby when we first arrived, and the refuge has been such an important part of her life. She has grown up there, from a little girl to a school-going child. The refuge staff, including the family support worker from Action for Children, and others who focus on supporting children, provided her with activities, summer trips, and thoughtful gifts and donations for special occasions. These experiences brought so much joy to her childhood and gave us moments of happiness during a tough time.
I cannot express how much all of this has meant to us. The gifts, donations, and support were not only helpful but gave us the strength to keep going. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for everything you’ve done for us during such a difficult period in our lives. Your kindness and generosity will never be forgotten.
