Our recently promoted Senior Fundraiser Alice Fisher spoke to us about what her new role heading up the Fundraising team will entail!
Tell us a bit about you - your hobbies, interests, etc.
Outside of work, I love to spend time with friends and family, I always like to make sure I have lots in the diary for my weekends whether that's weekends away, eating out or holidays! I enjoy DIY projects around the house from painting to building a bench, my latest creation was a side table made from a scaffolding plank. Baking is another passion of mine, and I love experimenting with new recipes whenever I get the chance.
How long have you worked at Changing Lives, and what roles have you had in your time? Tell us a bit more about your roles.
I joined Changing Lives in 2018 as a Fundraising and Events Officer. In 2021, I stepped into the role of Corporate Fundraising Manager, which later evolved into Corporate Fundraising and Events Manager and I have just been promoted to Senior Fundraiser. Throughout my time at Changing Lives, I’ve been involved in planning events and campaigns, securing donations and funding for projects, and building relationships with individuals and corporate partners. One of the highlights has been organising our Christmas Meal Campaign which has almost raised £250,000 over the past two years. I have worked closely with project staff, individuals and more recently corporates to try and raise as much as possible for our services.
What does your new role entail?
As the Senior Fundraiser, my role involves leading the development and implementation of our fundraising strategy to help grow income for our vital services. I’ll be overseeing the day-to-day operations of the fundraising function and ensuring everything runs smoothly. A key part of my role is supporting the wellbeing and development of the fundraising team which currently includes our brilliant Corporate and Events Fundraiser in the South, Bola!
How does your role differ from your former role now you hold more responsibility?
Now that I’ve moved into my first management role, I’m taking on new responsibilities, particularly around team leadership and strategic planning. I’m learning how to build a strong, resilient fundraising strategy to ensure we continue generating vital income for years to come. While my role has expanded, I’m still doing my previous role of Corporate Fundraising and Events, so please do continue to reach out to me for any fundraising needs in the North of England! I’m really pleased to still be working closely with project staff, helping secure the funds and donations that make their services even more impactful.
How do you feel you had to develop professionally (and personally) in order to secure your new role?
Throughout my time at Changing Lives, my line managers have always filled me with confidence in my own ability, encouraging me to believe in myself and see the outcomes of my hard work, so when the opportunity became available to progress to the Senior Fundraiser I jumped at the chance. Over the years, I’ve pushed myself outside my comfort zone—whether it’s networking, planning large-scale events, collaborating with our CEO, or speaking in front of hundreds of people. I feel that after over 7 years at Changing Lives, I'm ready to lead the Fundraising Team to more success!
