Almost one hundred participants braved a night sleeping at St. James’ Park in Newcastle to raise funds to support people experiencing homelessness across the region. Among these participants were 5 members of staff from Changing Lives.
The phenomenal total raised, £110,000, is the highest that has ever been raised by a Newcastle CEO Sleepout, which is now in its fifth year. The fundraising total will be split between Changing Lives, Newcastle United Foundation, and CEO Sleepout UK.
Jo Curry, Executive Director at Changing Lives, said:
“We were thrilled that so many business leaders stepped up to the challenge on Thursday. We are grateful for the generosity of their supporters.
“Changing Lives will use the money raised to support homeless people in and around Newcastle to move out of crisis and to build a better future for themselves and their families.”
The CEO Sleepout takes place at venues across the country and sees business leaders spend a night away from the comforts of home. As well as raising the profile of issues around homelessness, the funds raised will provide vital funds for projects that help tackle and prevent homelessness.
Bianca Robinson, national coordinator at CEO Sleepout, commented:
“All of our participants have done something truly incredible by sleeping out with us last Thursday.
“Although they know that what they experienced for one night doesn’t come close to the true horrors faced by those who are forced to sleep rough with little access to life’s basic necessities, they did give up a warm bed and one night of comfort to raise funds that will help their fellow human beings in the great city of Newcastle. That shows the true spirit of the city and marks it as one of the UK’s most generous cities, whose business leadership community visibly takes action to reduce inequality.”
Changing Lives is also involved in CEO Sleepout events in Durham and York, where we provide life-changing support for people experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. You can support us by signing up to sleep out for one night.
