Changing Lives has helped provide emergency accommodation for people in Durham as part of a pilot scheme. Working with The Salvation Army and four places of worship in the city, the project aims to provide a safe place to sleep, eat and shower as the temperatures drop this winter.

We arranged for The Fells, one of our accommodation services in Durham, to be available for the pilot. The service offers semi and fully independent living for residents and runs a wide range of mentoring, training and volunteering opportunities.

In addition to The Fells, churches working alongside the Salvation Army include St Nicholas’s Church, North Road Methodist Church, Elvet Methodist Church and St Godric’s Church.

The team behind the scheme is building on resources and the number of volunteers in the hope of continuing next winter and on a more permanent basis.
