On Thursday 8th March 2018, St. James’ Park will host local business leaders and CEOs as they sleep out for the night at the largest CEO Sleepout outside London.
Last year, 100 participants raised a whopping £90,000 to help tackle homelessness in the region, with the money raised going to local charities that support people experiencing homelessness, including Changing Lives.
Funds raised during the sponsored Sleepout will be split between Newcastle United Foundation, Changing Lives and CEO Sleepout UK. In Newcastle United’s 125th Anniversary Year the charities are looking for 125 senior business executives to fundraise a minimum of £1,000 each to help achieve a record target!
The funds raised during last year’s CEO Sleepout event are helping Changing Lives provide guidance to people in crisis, to help them avoid becoming homeless and to help them build a brighter future for themselves and their family.
Jo Curry, Executive Director at Changing Lives said:
“Changing Lives is pleased to be involved in the 2018 CEO sleep out at St James’ Park. Every morning we have people out on the streets of Newcastle as day breaks looking for people who have been rough sleeping.
We encourage them to come over to our base in the city – to have a coffee; a shower; a hot drink but most importantly to find out what is available so that they don’t have to spend another night outdoors.
It is thanks to the support of the people that took part in the CEO Sleepout last year and to their friends and supporters that we have been able to improve this service this year. For many it is the start of getting their lives back on track.
From our hostel accommodation they have a roof above their heads, but they are also helped to register with a doctor, get the right benefits, look into addiction recovery services and build their confidence so that they can start to consider employment. They are offered hope and the chance to build upon the strengths that they have.
We are grateful to everyone involved in the CEO Sleepout because you are undoubtedly changing lives.”
Andy Preston from CEO Sleepout added:
“Our business leaders are doing three amazing things; raising money to support great work in the city from groups like Changing Lives and the Newcastle United Foundation, raising awareness across Tyneside of the area’s challenges and the plight of those in homelessness and poverty, and showing the whole community how business and enterprise can be a huge force for good. This year we’re aiming to top the £100K mark with the support of the local business community.”
We also have events coming up in Durham and York soon:
- CEO Sleepout in York at York Racecourse on 16th April 2018
- CEO Sleepout in Durham at Durham Cathedral on 30th April 2018
