This week Changing Lives has submitted evidence in response to the consultation by the House of Lords Public Services Committee, into lessons learnt from COVID-19.

We welcome this inquiry into what the experience of the coronavirus outbreak tells us about the future role, priorities and shape of public services. It is vital that we learn from and sustain the positive changes that are emerging from COVID-19 and that we resist falling back into a status quo that was failing so many people in our society.

Our submission is based on our experiences as a charity delivering public services which support people facing a wide range of challenges, including homelessness, addiction, exploitation and abuse, and experience of the criminal justice system. Over the last few months, our teams, alongside other voluntary organisations, have played a vital role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our communities during the pandemic and have helped alleviate pressures on other public services, including the NHS.
