Accessing Experience is a new employability service available to people aged 50+ who are currently unemployed or at risk of unemployment across the North East.

Changing Lives have teamed up with Business in the Community to run a new employability service for people aged over 50 thanks to funding from the Aviva Foundation.

We are currently living in difficult, uncertain times, which can make the job market an even more challenging place to navigate at the moment. This can be even more daunting for people aged 50 or over, who may feel unsure of their options or what steps to take in their career. This is where Accessing Experience aims to help.

Accessing Experience is a free service, which aims to support people 50+ looking to get back into the workforce. It provides people with 1-1 support to understand the challenges they face and provide a tailored support plan. People will also be able to access a series of online workshops to improve employability skills and training and attend industry insight sessions with our business volunteers.

Alison Daley, Project Volunteer, said:

“Getting back into the workplace or taking a career change can be tough on anyone, but there are often extra challenges for people who are a bit older and who have perhaps found themselves unemployed for the first time in a very long time. They may feel out of practice with applying for jobs or unsure of where even to start. Some people may feel they don’t have the digital skills or confidence to navigate the job market or even approach job applications. That is where Accessing Experience can help by providing 1-1 support and guidance to help people find a career path that is right for them and equipping them with the skills and confidence to get back into work .”
