On 5th August 2016, our team from Sunderland took part in a 12-hour cycle-athon to continue to change lives in the city. Mangobean Team Valley were on hand to provide support and coffees, continuing their strong relationship with the charity.
Our team from Sunderland made the trip to Team Valley to complete a 12-hour cycle relay from 6am-6pm to raise money for their projects, which include hostel in-reach for those without a permanent address as well as support and drop-ins for people engaging in sex work and at risk of sexual exploitation.
The morning was kicked off by Ger (pictured) who cycled non-stop from 6am-7am, before being replaced by colleague and volunteer Sharon.
Throughout the day, members of staff from across the organisation took the saddle to do their bit for the Sunderland projects, and staff of Mangobean coffee shop and passers by were also encouraged to lend their legs for 5 minutes!
As well as fundraising buckets, the team had organised a tombola which included prizes of free football coaching sessions and pamper kits.
Mangobean coffee shop kindly hosted the cycle-athon, continuing their support for Changing Lives. Each month, the coffee shop donates food to the Sunderland projects to help the beneficiaries of the charity in that area. In July 2016, this donation of food was worth almost £2000.
The team’s fund-raising efforts reach a peak over the August Bank Holiday as they will strive to complete the Yorkshire 3-Peak Challenge, with all proceeds going to their projects in Sunderland.
